Maintenance of the car parks and outdoor areas of a passenger terminal – Green Machines 400ze

In a railway station or a passenger terminal, cleanliness must be maintained throughout the day, including during periods of heavy traffic. The client needed a compact, electric solution for mechanising the sweeping of car parks, access routes and pedestrian areas, with minimal impact on the activity and comfort of travellers.

The challenge

The client manages a passenger terminal with approximately 15,000 m² of car parks, access routes, pedestrian areas and other outdoor surfaces that require periodic maintenance.

The constant traffic of travellers and vehicles generates dust, sand, leaves, plant matter, packaging and other small urban waste every day.

Cleaning has to be carried out daily, with additional interventions in the access areas and at high-traffic points.

Previously, a significant part of the operations was carried out by hand or with equipment that did not offer the level of manoeuvrability needed to access all areas.

An additional difficulty was the fact that the terminal remains active during cleaning operations. The equipment must be able to work near passengers and access areas without disrupting activity unnecessarily.

Main difficulties identified:

  • extensive and varied outdoor surfaces;
  • constant traffic of people and vehicles;
  • daily build-up of dust, leaves and waste;
  • the presence of narrow areas or areas with numerous obstacles;
  • the need for interventions near passengers;
  • fewer manual operations;
  • the need for compact, highly manoeuvrable equipment;
  • reducing noise and emissions in areas frequented by the public.

What we needed to solve

The following objectives were set for this application:

  1. mechanising the sweeping of car parks and outdoor areas;
  2. less time needed for daily operations;
  3. less manual intervention and effort;
  4. access to pedestrian areas and spaces with obstacles;
  5. the possibility of intervening during normal operating hours;
  6. reduced impact on passengers and staff;
  7. the use of an electric solution, with no local emissions during operation.

The solution recommended by Komarom

Green Machines 400ze

Following an analysis of the surfaces, the type of dirt and the conditions of use, the Komarom Trade Invest team recommended the Green Machines 400ze compact electric sweeper.

One of the main arguments for choosing the model was its electric drive, suitable for applications in which the equipment has to work frequently near people and buildings.

Electric operation eliminates local exhaust emissions and helps reduce noise during cleaning operations.

Compact and manoeuvrable

In a passenger terminal, the surfaces are not made up only of car parks or wide access routes. There are pavements, pedestrian areas, kerbs, street furniture, posts, signs and other obstacles.

The compact format and manoeuvrability of the Green Machines 400ze allow the operator to work in such areas and to mechanise activities that previously required a greater amount of manual labour.

Suitable for interventions in areas used by the public

The low noise level and the absence of local emissions are important advantages when cleaning has to be carried out during normal operating hours.

Interventions can thus be organised more flexibly, without being limited exclusively to periods of low traffic.

A single machine for several types of surface

The Green Machines 400ze can be integrated into the maintenance programme for car parks, access routes, pavements, pedestrian areas and other compatible outdoor surfaces.

The configuration and working method were set according to the types of surface, the level of dirt and the routes the equipment was to cover.

Before implementation, it was possible to test the machine under real conditions to assess access to narrow areas, manoeuvrability and the sweeping result.

Implementation

The implementation process:

  1. Needs analysis
  2. Green Machines 400ze recommendation
  3. Demonstration/Testing
  4. Configuration
  5. Delivery
  6. Training
  7. Support

In the first stage, the Komarom team analysed the surfaces that had to be maintained, the types of waste, the cleaning frequency, the equipment's routes and the areas with heavy passenger traffic.

The car parks, the main access routes, the pedestrian areas and the points where manual cleaning required the most time were identified.

Based on this information, the Green Machines 400ze was recommended.

Testing under real conditions made it possible to assess manoeuvrability, access to areas with obstacles and the result obtained on the site's representative surfaces.

After delivery, the staff were trained in the correct use of the machine, charging the batteries and carrying out the daily checking and maintenance operations.

Komarom subsequently provides technical support, consumables, spare parts and dedicated servicing.

The results

The introduction of the Green Machines 400ze made it possible to mechanise a significant part of the maintenance activities for the terminal's outdoor surfaces.

Main results:

  • less time needed to sweep the surfaces;
  • a larger area covered by the same operator;
  • fewer operations carried out by hand;
  • reduced physical effort for staff;
  • faster interventions in car parks and access areas;
  • better access to narrow spaces and areas with obstacles;
  • the possibility of cleaning during operating hours;
  • less noise associated with sweeping operations;
  • elimination of local exhaust emissions during use;
  • more uniform results on the maintained surfaces.

In a passenger terminal, the benefit of a compact electric sweeper lies not only in productivity, but also in the possibility of intervening frequently in areas used by the public, with reduced impact on day-to-day activity.

Testimonial

“The Green Machines 400ze has helped us make the daily cleaning of the car parks, access roads and pedestrian areas around the terminal more efficient. The machine is compact, easy to manoeuvre and lets us intervene quickly, including in narrow spaces or areas with many obstacles. Electric operation, low noise levels and zero local emissions are important advantages in an area with constant passenger traffic. Our collaboration with the Komarom team has been very good, from choosing the right solution and testing the machine through to delivery, operator training and the technical support provided. We are satisfied with the results achieved and with how efficiently we can maintain the outdoor areas without disrupting the terminal’s operations.”
